Brgys 14, Zamboanga top clean-and-green search
Outstanding Laoagueños named

Barangay 14 copped the cleanest and greenest barangay search in the urban category in the city for the third consecutive years. As a result, the said barangay has been named into the Hall of Fame.

Winning in the rural category is Barangay 44 Zamboanga.

The clean-and-green search is an annual project of the Laoag City government in line with its induction into the Hall of Fame in the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran Award, or more popularly known as the national clean and green search.

Rounding up the top three finishers are Barangays 23 San Matias, and 24 Nuestra Sra. De Consolacion, second and third in the urban category; and Barangays 62-B Navotas and 41 Balacad, second and third respectively in the rural category.

Other finalist in the urban category were Barangays 27, 3, 13, 9, 11, 2, 1, 25, 7-A, 20, 10, and 22. In the rural category, they were Barangays 30-A Suyo, 53 Rioeng, 30-B Sta. Maria, 52-B Lataag, 57 Pila, 49-B Raraburan, 54-B Camanggaan, 52-A San Mateo, 51-B Nangalisan West, 42 Apaya, 55-B Salet Bulangon, and 45 Tangid.

Finalists are set to receive plaques of recognition while the top three winners will receive P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 respectively.

Barangay 40 Balatong was also given the sustainability award, which comes with a cash prize of P50,000.

In the elementary school category, Laoag Central Elementary School, Gabaldon Elementary School and Shamrock Elementary School took first, second and third places respectively under the Principal II category.

Cabeza Elementary School, Gabu Elementary School and MMSU-Laboratory Elementary School, meanwhile copped first, second and third respectively in the head teacher category.

In the secondary schools category, the Ilocos Norte Regional School of Fishery took the top price with the Ilocos Norte National High School (INNHS) finishing second. Gabu National High School placed third.

Winners in the school category will receive a total cash prize of P100,000 from the city government.

Meanwhile, the city government is also set to recognize the 10 most outstanding Laoagueños of the year.

The awardees are Hercules City (California) Mayor Frank Batara (politics), Urdaneta Bishop Jacinto Jose (religion), Isagani R. Nerez (military/PNP), Vice Admiral Reuben Lista (ret) (military/naval service), Noli Joaquin (culture and the arts), Judge Santiago Ranada (justice), PGH head of surgeon Dr. Nathaniel Labio (medicine), Dr. Melchor Tayamen (agriculture), Ms Lilian Luis (business and trade), and Dr. Caesar I. Agnir (education).

The Zonta Club of Ilocos Norte-Laoag City will also be given a special plaque of recognition as the most outstanding award for a group and NEDA awardee for the Region I search for volunteerism.
