Ilocos Norte Governor Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has underlined the importance of science fairs in young people as it prepares them to become a vital part of the society. Addressing the students, science teachers, coaches, education supervisors, principals and district supervisors during the third National Science Quiz Bee, Sci-Dama and Science Fair, Marcos stressed that their participation in this kind of activity “significantly contribute to the efforts of the government to intensify the growth of science and technology and resource development.” Held on February 7 to 9, this activity, he added, enables participants “to have an effective exchange of scientific knowledge and innovative ideas for proper utilization of our natural resources. This is a venue for the display of creativity and ingenuity of inventions and scientific researches,” the governor added. Marcos has emphasized that “arousing the interest of schoolchildren in science and encouraging them to participate in and learn about the processes of scientific research is a good investment in the future.” Hurdling tough local and regional science competitions prior to entering the national competition, the governor has recognized that “these young students have shown that they have the talent, the industry, the skill and the energy to become successful in their career paths.” Unlike to what is commonly known, he also emphasized that science and technology could also be fun and exciting way of exploring new ideas and concepts for young students. This year’s competition was hosted by Bacarra National Comprehensive High School (BNCHS), recognized as the country’s “most innovative school.” Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte Schools Division Superintendent Ms. Araceli Pastor and host Principal Isabel S. Sandi have expressed their sincere gratitude for the DepEd for choosing Ilocos Norte as the host province. Dr. Vilma Labrador, DepEd regional director and DepEd OIC Usec. Fe Hidalgo also graced the said affair. Excel D. Guiang
