The general impression is that Laoag is basically agricultural considering that 8,744.6973 hectares or 60.76% of its total land area is devoted to food production compared to its 881.9664% hectares of commercial and industrial sites. This is not so, however, with the proliferation not only of commercial firms but likewise of offices of national and regional government agencies; and the presence of numerous functional facilities and amenities, the city has acquired the character of being a melting pot, a haven where people from different places converge.
