LC engineering office to inspect major canals

WITH the early onset of the wet season this May, city engineer Ulderito D. Root announced that his office has started clearing operations of major waterways in Laoag.

According to Root, it was observed that during downpours which occurred this month, streets were easily flooded and this may be due to clogged canals.

To remedy this, Root said he has instructed his personnel to inspect all major canals in the city’s poblacion area and to clear them of any waste materials that may impede the flow of water.

Root has also asked city residents to immediately report to their office if they observe stagnant water in their canal so they could quickly act on it.

Root also appealed to the public not use canals as their garbage since this is the major cause of clogged waterways.

He also said the integrated drainage system, which was one of the pet projects of the administration of former Laoag Mayor Roger C. Fariñas, as a big help in controlling the flow of floodwater around the city.

Meanwhile, Root also ordered engineering personnel to inspect the roof the new City Hall building after reports reached him that they were damages on the said infrastructure.

However, he clarified that this does not mean the materials used in the new building were sub-standard.

Saan a maikkat nga adda latta agubo diuray man ketdi ana a klase a building aglalo ket tawen met iti napal-palabasen ket siguro adda ngata gal-galba na nga timmal-o iti lansa na wenno agrukop met iti galba a gapu iti panagubo da,” Root explained.

In a related development, the City Engineering Office is also assisting in the implementation of the city’s Oplan Dalus code.

Among the first activities was the removal of election campaign materials around the city.

Root also warned open market vendors about their wastes after their operations.

Masapul ngarud nga dalusan na ayan na ken isaku da dagiti bukod da a root tapnon al-alisto iti panagbagkat dagiti agakup iti basura,” Root said.

He also promised to conduct regular monitoring at the Laoag City Commercial Complex for cleanliness and orderliness.
