Dredging of Bengan Creek to be strictly monitored

AS THE rainy season has started, the Laoag City government, through the Community Affairs Office (CAO), announced that they would be strictly monitoring the dredging of the Bengan Creek here.

The dredging is widely seen as a solution to the flooding in the city’s poblacion area whenever there is a heavy downpour.

The schedule for the dredging per barangay are as follows: Barangay 19, June 6 and 7; Barangay 18, June 8 and 9; Barangay 17, June 12 and 13; Barangay 16, June 14 and 15; Barangay 15, June 16 and 18; Barangay 14, June 19 and 20; Barangay 11, June 21 and 22; and Barangay 10, June 23-30.

The creek located along Barangays 20 and 21 were earlier dredged by the combined forces of the CAO, the City Engineering Office and the Liga ng mga Barangay.

Commenting on this, Laoag City Mayor Michael V. Fariñas appealed to the city’s residents to start disciplining themselves in terms of keeping their surroundings clean, especially waterways.

“Saan tay kad ngamin a pagbalinen a basura dagitoy kanal tayo kasi at the end of the day datayon to met lang iti agkaprobleman no dumteng iti pinagtotodo. Ken no adda pannakabalin na, saan ngata met narigat unay no batog yo, dalusan yo,” Fariñas said.

Meanwhile, CAO has also lined up a citywide cleaning and greening, and tree-planting activity on June 15 in line with the celebration of the environment month this June.

The said activity will be participated in by the city government, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the public.

Aside from conducting Oplan Dalus, a tree-planting activity will also be held along the national highway at Barangays Barit and Salet-Bulangon.

Earlier, city engineer Ulderito D. Root said his office has started clean up of the major canals in the city’s poblacion area.

Root has also asked the assistance of barangay officials and residents to help in maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings, especially in waterways located near them.
