BACARRA, Ilocos Norte—Police have arrested at least four suspects and seized assorted firearms in this town on June 5 as part of its campaign against loose firearms. Armed with search warrants, joint elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Regional Office of the Philippine National Police, Special Weapons and Tactics and this town’s police seized a 9 mm cal from Robert Gascon while a 12 gauge shotgun was recovered from Rolly Gascon both of barangay 10 here. Authorities also seized nine rounds of ammunition for a cal 45 gun from Hector Corpuz of barangay 29 in Laoag City while John Carlo Valdemor was caught carrying a cal 32 gun. Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil, PNP Regional Director, said a 12 gauge shot gun was seized from acting Bacarra Vice Mayor Villamor Ramelb. But Ramelb had reportedly shown the necessary documents that the firearm was licensed. Bataoil said the authorities who implemented the search warrants were members of the Task Force Velasco which was formed to look into the twin murders of Bacarra Mayor Philip Velasco and Councilor Marcelo Andaya. Bataoil could not confirm, however, whether the suspects are involved in the murders. Cristina Arzadon (PIA-Ilocos News Service)
