LC children’s choir bags 1st place in reg’l NAMCYA tilt
Laoag City schools division superintendent Dr. Cecilia P. Aribuabo announced that the Laoag Children’s Choir bested seven other children’s choir from Regions I, II and the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) in the competition held September 28 to 29 in Baguio City. Aribuabo said that with the win, the city’s children’s choir would represent Regions I, II and CAR in the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) national finals tentatively set this November. In line with this, Aribuabo expressed her gratitude to the city government, especially to the local finance committee and Laoag Mayor Michael V. Fariñas, for releasing funds that helped the competitors in their travel. Aribuabo also congratulated the city’s representatives in the rondalla competition, students from the Ilocos Norte National High School, which she said gave their best although they did not qualify for the national finals. The Laoag City Children’s Choir is composed of pupils from Shamrock Elementary School and is being trained by INNHS faculty members. Meanwhile, Aribuabo also announced that the mid-schoolyear break for elementary and secondary pupils will be on the last week of October in time for the commemoration of All Saints and Souls Days. The break would last for one week. However, teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education will still be required to report to their respective schools and offices.
