AS THE elementary pupils and secondary students in Laoag City took a semestral break on October 23-27, the city Department of Education (DepEd) took the opportunity to hold a series of seminars fro both teaching and non-teaching teachers in the division. Ms Trinidad Madamba, assistant city schools division superintendent, said all elementary teachers teaching science, math and English were required to undergo the unified seminar sponsored by the national government. Other teachers were also made to undergo separate trainings, which were divided into three districts. Teachers from District I conducted their training in Laoag Central Elementary School; District II in AP Santos Elementary School; and District III in Gabaldon Elementary School. Madamba also mentioned that the non-teaching personnel also underwent a livelihood training seminar, specifically soap- and candle-making at the city division office. The said trainings and seminars aimed to widen and improve the teachers’ knowledge in their respective lines of specializations. Meanwhile, Grades I-III pupils were also given reading materials for the one-week school break while Grades IV-VI pupils were given assignments to be passed the week after the break.
