LC trike franchises with ending numbers of 4-0 urged to comply
Sangguniang Panlungsod secretary Enrico Aurelio announced that Laoag City tricycle franchises with ending numbers of 4-0 should now submit their units for their annual inspection/physical inventory or face suspension of their franchises. According to Aurelio, an ordinance calling for the suspension of these units is ready should franchise owners fail to undergo annual inspection. He added that if their franchises had been suspended and they ignored such suspension, the city council would immediately move to have these franchises revoked. The said tricycle franchises had been given up to three months to comply. If suspended, their tricycle units would not be allowed to ply their routes until they complete the requirements. As of November 2, 2006, an estimated 89 tricycle franchises with ending numbers of 4-0 have yet to undergo their respective annual inspection. Meanwhile, Aurelio said his office is currently going around the city to serve the notices to the said tricycle franchise owners. The strict implementation of the tricycle code, he said, is for the city government to determine which among these franchises are still operating. In a related development, Aurelio clarified the issue wherein it was said that approved tricycle fare increase from P7 to P8 had not been withdrawn. Aurelio made the correction following media reports that the said fare increase had been withdrawn. Contrary to this, Aurelio said the fare increase had not taken effect yet because the ordinance calling for such still needs to be published in a generally circulated local paper for three consecutive times before it can be implemented. He added that the fare increase may take effect not later than December this year provided the Sangguniang Panlalawigan would immediately transmit the approved and reviewed city ordinance calling for the tricycle fare increase.
